My Why: My Journey to Self-Publishing

Updated: Jan 27, 2020

My Journey to becoming an Author and how it all began.

I remember the moment I decided I wanted to be an author. It was mid 2017 and I was on one of my reading marathons. You know, those weekends where you just demolish all the books you can find in your genre of interest. I had already read every book I could find that piqued my interest but needed another one.

Craved to keep reading. I spent over an hour scavenging through Goodreads. Then, finally I found one that I wanted to read. I bought it, opened it and started reading. It wasn’t until I got a quarter way through that the wheels fell off for me. I turned the page and I stopped. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. That wasn’t what was supposed to happen. I had plotted in my head every acceptable turn the book could take and this wasn’t one of them.

I turned off my e-reader, confused and betrayed. I marched out to my husband and told him in no uncertain terms that I was going to write a book. I was going to plot it and write it and everything was going to happen exactly the way it happened in my head. So right there I went to write a book with no plan but to write. I wrote, but then reality hit and my full-time job went back. Life got busy. I stopped writing and I went back to reading every Romantic Suspense, Young Adult and Contemporary Romance book I could find.

Fast forward a couple of years and I found myself on maternity leave. I had this beautiful baby and wonderful supportive husband and I felt it. That passion to write again. The timing wasn’t right before but now it was.

The road to being a self-publishing author was definitely not an easy one. I was determined though. So I consumed every bit of information that I could find. I joined dozens of author Facebook groups. I searched and I read and I learned, and let me tell you, those groups are worth their weight in gold. They have every answer to every question you could think of, and if by chance there exists a question that has not been asked, you type the question and have ten answers within minutes. It’s magic. So, I wrote, and I learned, and I will keep writing.

I write about alpha heroes and romantic heroines. I create worlds where there is always a happy ending. I have ignited a passion inside of me that can no longer be extinguished.
